“Stories of AV Archives”: A Podcast Series

“Stories of AV Archives” is a podcast series brought to you by the Audiovisual Think Tank (AVTT) – a group of experts working with audiovisual archives around the world, exploring challenges and seeking ways to promote and sustain our audiovisual heritage.

The series brings attention to the issues raised in the work of the Think Tank and the wider community through highlighting voices of people active in the field, and connecting topics to the everyday instances in which users experience the work of archives.

The series has just released its second episode in June 2019. This episode focuses on the theme: “The Importance of Audiovisual Archives” and includes an interview that Rachel Somers Miles (AVTT coordinator) conducted of Judith Opoku Boateng – Head Archivist of the J. H. Kwabena Nketia Archives of the Institute of African Studies, University of Ghana – and an audio essay by Bill Thompson in which he argues that we should be offering our archives to train tomorrow’s machine learning systems.

The team is currently working on a third episode which is expected to be released in August.

Stories of AV Archives is always interested in the input of the AV archiving community, so please feel free to share themes you’d like covered or people you’d like to see interviewed by emailing avthinktank@beeldengeluid.nl
