About

EUscreen is a network of European broadcasters and audiovisual archives, media scholars, and technical experts. We facilitate access to and engagement with archival audiovisual content through our independent online portal. We also forge collaborations aimed at curating and generating content, enhancing audience engagement, and improving our infrastructure.

Mission & Vision

The EUscreen portal offers free access to thousands of archival audiovisual items. It brings together clips that provide an insight into the social, cultural, political, and economic events that have shaped the 20th and 21st centuries. The portal also allows you to explore television programmes showcasing everyday life and is a resource for educators, researchers, and media professionals searching for audiovisual content from across Europe.

The EUscreen initiative started in October 2009 with funding from the European Commission, though the initial concept was already set up in 2006 under the Video Active project. Since then, through a succession of EU-funded projects, more than 60,000 videos and related materials, representing Europe’s audiovisual heritage have been made available online through our portal. We aim to engage audiences from education, research, and the general public with our collections.

Membership

The EUscreen Network consists of over 40 members from almost 30 different European countries. We offer our members technical and archival support in managing and promoting their collections, an international reach for distribution and engagement, priority access to scholarly publications and externally funded projects, and much more.

Europeana

Europeana develops expertise, tools, and policies to embrace digital change and encourage partnerships that foster innovation. EUscreen is a trusted Europeana aggregation partner. We support our network members in providing their audiovisual content directly to Europeana and help them curate collections on the EUscreen portal.
