DR (Danish Broadcasting Corporation) is the oldest and largest electronic media enterprise in Denmark. The corporation was founded in 1925 as a public service organisation. DR is an independent, licence financed public institution. DR has an audiovisual archive, where the estimated holding is 570.000 hours of material. 473.000 hours of radio, 69.000 hours of television and 28.000 hours of film. The archive consist of material dating as far back as 1896.
The materials will be digitalized according to the international standards set by EBU and others, and archived in DRs Media Archive where they will be stored securely and also be available for the DR production department via our fully digital production facilities.
DR has a long tradition for using historical material both in radio shows, television programs and giving access online, which this project will follow. The plan is to make the materials available online for the general public in various ways, and to the Universities through the national science network, a secured online environment owned by the Universities.
